A, representative trace of preconstricted arteriole showing that maximal stimulation with balloon distension (black arrowhead; 3 distensions, ≈1 Hz) evokes vasodilatation of the arteriole. At the peak of the dilatation, the mucosa was stroked (white arrowhead; 4 strokes, ≈1 Hz) at the same stimulus site, evoking a further increase in the amplitude of the response. Resting outside diameter was 50 μm.
