Immediately upon removal from the animal, spontaneous phasic contractions were recorded that were temporally uncoordinated between each recording site. No clear MMCs were present. D, E and F, in the same preparation, approximately 3 h after the recordings in A–C were made, spontaneous MMCs were observed. MMCs originated in the proximal ileum and propagated to the terminal ileum.
