Serially passaged HIV-1BaL assembles in a CD81- and CD9-containing compartment. Semithin cryosections from MDM infected with the passaged stock of HIV-1BaL for 13 days were stained with a rabbit antiserum against HIV p17 and mouse MAbs to CD81 (A) or CD9 (B), followed by anti-rabbit Alexa Fluor 594 and anti-mouse Alexa Fluor 488. The HIV-containing structures (red, left column) costained strongly with CD81 and CD9 (green, center column), giving a yellow color in the merged images (right column). Scale bars = 10 μm.
