The development of sensory epithelium is separated into early (A) and later (B) phase. In the early phase, Notch has a prosensory role allowing the specification of the sensory domain (A). After hair cell specification, Notch ligand expressing hair cells inhibit surrounding cells to differentiate hair cells (B). Pro-SE: Prosensory epithelium.
