MIA downregulates surfactant gene expression. Explants of E18.5 lungs were cultured for 2 days in the presence or absence of 500 ng/ml recombinant MIA. qRT-PCR demonstrates that expression of Sftpa, Sftpb, Sftpc and Abca3 is significantly (*, p < 0.05) reduced in lungs cultured in medium containing MIA.
