Effect of cold temperature on nuclear segregation. Wild-type and yeb1Δ cells grown to late log phase (>107 cells ml−1) at 30 °C were shifted to 14 °C for 36 h or 80 h. Control cells were kept at 30 °C. Data are shown only for abnormal cell forms: binucleate large-budded cells, binucleate unbudded cells, and multi-nucleate unbudded cells with three or more nuclei. More than 200 cells were counted for each sample. Error bars indicate s.e.m. Cells at 14 °C divided slowly, reaching saturation during the time course of the experiment. Nuc, nucleus.
