aOvarian carcinomas (OvCa), low malignant potential (LMP) tumors, and cystadenomas (cystad.) as well as Wilms tumors (WT) were scored for methylation change by southern blotting relative to eight diverse somatic control tissues (controls). Scores: −1, −2, and −3, increasing hypomethylation; +1, +2, and +3, increasing hypermethylation; 0, little or no change relative to controls; Y, change in the methylation pattern that is difficult to classify as hypo- or hypermethylation; nd, not determined. Supplementary Figure 1 shows representative blots, which illustrate the hyper- or hypomethylation of most cancers compared to the similar patterns of methylation in the control somatic tissues.

bFour diverse somatic control tissues were present in each cancer DNA blot.
