Pigment content is expressed as mol/100 mol chlorophylls. Viola, antheraxanthin, and Zea content was determined after leaves were illuminated for 30 min at 1000 μmol m−2 s−1. The (Z+1/2A)/(Z+A+V) ratio quantifies the operation of the xanthophyll cycle. Data are mean values of four experiments. Significantly different values with respect to the wild type are marked with an asterisk (P > 0.05).
