Mineral content of host and parasite. Whole plant tissue from hosts and tissue from parasites were collected from monospecific patches of Ambrosia artimisiifolia and Aster ericoides infested with C. attenuata (n = 4 for each). Samples comprising approximately 5 g of dry tissue from host stems and leaves, or 1 g of dry parasite tissue from each patch were subjected to wet ash analysis at the Texas A & M Extension Service Testing Laboratory. Samples were collected concurrently with the parasite transplant experiment described in Fig. 3.
