Spin state energies (6A1, 4T1, and 2T2) obtained for green, quasi-native, and native CPO from the EPR simulations of Figs. 3 and 4, using the three-term crystal field model described in the text. Only the lower-lying states are shown. In the simulations, the Racah parameters B = 1015 cm−1 and C = 4800 cm−1 and the spin-orbit coupling constant ζ = 430 cm−1 were kept fixed, while all other parameters were allowed to vary. For quasi-native and native CPO, the lowest-lying 2T2 states contain admixtures of the higher-lying quartet (4T1) and sextet (6A1) states. The lowest-lying state of green CPO is a pure doublet (2T2).
