Development of BCR/ABL-induced leukemia depends on p53 status. BCR/ABL transcripts detected by RT-PCR followed by Southern blotting in peripheral blood of immunodeficient mice 4 weeks or 16 weeks after injection of 14-day in vitro cultured BCR/ABL-infected p53+/+ cells (lanes 1–5) or BCR/ABL-infected p53−/− cells (lanes 6–10), respectively. No bands were detected from RNA samples subjected to PCR amplification only. β-Actin served as a control of the integrity of the RNA used for RT-PCR.
