In the paper of Holme & Ghoshal, agents compete for a position of high centrality and low degree. This figure shows that complex global topologies are formed. In the figure three classes of nodes can be identified. Most nodes suffer a low centrality, while others gain high centrality at the cost of having to maintain a large number of links.
