Radial distribution of cells labeled by in situ hybridization. Cells were labeled by in situ hybridization with fZOR6 (——), fZOR9 (···), fZOR8 (— · —), and fZOR5 (---). Their radial distances were determined within each section and normalized as described. The relative radii were summed for three to seven nasal epithelia per receptor, corresponding to 600–900 labeled cells, and the resulting data are presented with a bin size of 0.05. Data shown are all obtained from fish of genotype Ab/Tü. The annular expression seen here (a distinct maximum of labeled cells at a particular radial position) was also observed with fish from heterogenous genetic background.
