C₆-SM enhances the cellular uptake and nuclear accumulation of doxorubicin. Confluent BAEC were incubated for the indicated periods with 50 μM of doxorubicin, either in the absence (A–E) or presence (F-J) of 10 μM C₆-SM. Cells were then washed and fixated in 4% (v v⁻¹) paraformaldehyde. After mounting, cells were examined by fluorescence microscopy, employing a filter set consisting of a 450–490 nm band pass excitation filter, a 510 nm beam splitter and a 520 nm long pass emission filter. All specimens were photographed through a × 20 objective using a 200 ms exposure time.
