FTS alters the morphology of human 518A2 melanoma cells and inhibits their growth. Human 518A2 melanoma cells were plated at a density of 1 × 10⁴ cells per well in 6-well plates and grown for 3 days in DMEM/10% FCS in the presence of 0.1% DMSO (control) or the indicated concentrations of FTS. Representative photomicrographs taken on day 3 (original magnification ×100) show that with increasing molar concentration of FTS there is a decrease in cell number and progressive flattening and spindle cell morphology reminiscent of normal melanocytes.
