(A) As is evident, the fluctuating environmental conditions resulted in frequent changes of social status in most animals. Note that the animal in the top graph (F1) remained territorial for a long period of time despite environmental changes. (B) Stable environmental conditions resulted in relatively longer periods of territorial tenure, although changes still occurred.
