p38 MAPK is not involved in the phagocytosis of B. burgdorferi. Wild-type BMDM were preincubated with either a vehicle control or 10 μM p38 MAPK inhibitor SB203580 for 1 h prior to the addition of B. burgdorferi (Bb) (MOI = 10). The phagocytosis assay and immunofluorescence staining were performed as described in the legend to Fig. 1. Cells containing internalized B. burgdorferi particles at 1 h after B. burgdorferi infection were counted and expressed as a percentage of the total number of cells examined.
