Neurons were loaded with Fura-2/AM, and [Ca²⁺]_i was estimated from the respective ratio of the fluorescence at 340 and 380 nm excitation wavelength. After BDNF bath application, [Ca²⁺]_i raises in both the proximal part (area 1) and the distal part (area 2) of the dendritic process. (B) Effect of bath application of BDNF on the [Ca²⁺]_i of hippocampal neurons in absence of extracellular calcium (0 calcium, 10 μM BAPTA).
