Reversibility of structural changes that occur when annexin XII undergoes membrane insertion at low pH. The EPR spectrum of the same sample of annexin XII mutant 144R1 was sequentially recorded in solution at pH 7.4 (A) and then in the membrane-bound form at pH 4.0 (B) as described in Fig. 3. The membrane-bound protein then was extracted with buffer at pH 7.4, the vesicles were removed by centrifugation and the EPR spectrum of the protein in solution was determined (C).
