Effect of hydrogen peroxide on the survival rate of different Molt-4 strains. Molt-4 cells were stably transformed with either pcDNA 3.1 or pcDNA 3.1 harboring the bovine msrA cDNA, as described in Materials and Methods. Cells were grown in the presence of 50, 100, and 200 μM H₂O₂ for 24 and 48 h. Survival rate was represented by the percentage of living cells at each time point (as measured by using the trypan exclusion assay). Symbols are defined as follows: Molt-4 transfected only with the pcDNA 3.1 ■, at 24 h, and □, at 48 h; Molt-4 transfected with pcDNA 3.1 harboring the msrA gene •, at 24 h, and ○, at 48 h. Replicate experiments gave similar results.
