^*MEF3 sequence from the murine myogenin promoter (−90/−100) was changed from CTCAGGTTTCT to CTCgaGgggCg (consensus MEF3 motif underlined). 

^†At E10.5 expression of the ß-galactosidase transgene was restricted to small stripes of cells in the myotome that formed a small dorso ventral stripe at the level of the notochord. At E11.5 and E13.5 an additional stripe of cells expressing the transgene was localized in the ventral aspect of the thoracic myotomes.
