The total solar eclipse of 16 April 1178 B.C. (the 31st eclipse in Saros Series 39) seen from the Ionian Islands at 12:02 p.m. local time. This eclipse was spectacular: all planets were visible simultaneously on a 90° arc on the ecliptic; the hidden sun was “crowned” by the Pleiades. Apparent magnitudes: Venus, −4; Jupiter, −1.9; Mercury, −1.2; Saturn, 0.16; Mars, 1.3.
