Alveolar type II cells were cultured on an air-lipid interface. Adenovirus (m.o.i. 100) was added on day 3, and the cells were labeled with [³H]choline on day 6. The cells were stimulated with 1 mm ATP and 0.1 μm phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate for 2 h on Day 7, and lung surfactant secretion was assayed.
