Protection by l-glutamate against inactivation of glutamate transport by maleimides. The initial rates of glutamate in right-side-out membrane vesicles prepared from E. coli cells expressing mutant S269C were measured after treatment with AMdiS or NEM in the presence or absence of 2 mM l-glutamate. Initial rates are expressed as percentage of the rate in membrane vesicles that had not been treated with either of the maleimides.
