Enhancer-blocking in circular plasmids. A scheme representing the enhancer-blocking activity of the (II/III-Ins)Q element as in the case of the experiments shown in Fig. 3. When (II/III-Ins)Q is placed between the enhancer and the promoter, the enhancer can in principle “reach” the promoter from the opposite side. Only when the (II/III-Ins)Q is located on both sides of the enhancer can the highest enhancer-blocking activity be reached.
