The variables included were: gender and age of patient and caregiver, patient SES, education level of the caregiver, geographical area, number of cohabitants, patient–caregiver relationship, and time of non self‐sufficiency. Variables with a p value ⩾ 0.1, based on the Wald F statistic, were excluded.
