The location of the splice junction where in some cDNAs short intervening sequences have been found is identified by a triangle. The positions of the putative proteolytic cleavage site at aspartate residue 510 (nucleotide position 1,708), and the codon GCA (alanine) at nucleotide position 1,759, which is absent in some IL-16 splice variants, are underlined.
