Translocation ATPase activity of SecA+ and SecA36 in combination with secG+ IMV or ΔsecG IMV. Translocation ATPase was assayed at 20°C with the wild-type SecA protein (open symbols) or the SecA36 mutant protein (solid symbols) in combination with 6 M urea-washed IMV from the wild-type strain (GN67; circles) or from the ΔsecGkan mutant (GN68; triangles). The activity of wild-type SecA at this temperature was about 25% of the activity at 37°C.
