A schematic representation of the reporter manganese porphyrins in the model vesicular systems. Mn(III)TMPyP, when entrapped inside the vesicles, is prevented from sampling the bulk volume during the experiments. Mn(III)ChP spans the membrane with the position of the macrocycle at the center of the membrane and porphyrin plane parallel to the membrane surface (33). The reaction of the manganese(III) porphyrin with peroxynitrite to afford oxomanganese(IV) and NO₂ is depicted below.
