Eleven pgp3 amino acid sequences were aligned and compared for homology using the Clustalw software (http://www.ebi.ac.uk/Tools/clustalw/index.html). These sequences are from the following chlamydial species, serovars, or strains: C. trachomatis serovars A (plasmid pCTA, NCBI accession number AAX51165), B (pCTT1, AAB02589), D (pCHL1, C37386), L1 (pLGV440, CAA29894), and L2 (pLGV2, X07547); C. muridarum (pMoPn, Q46439); C. suis (pCS1, ABB80389); C. caviae strain GPIC (pCpGP1, NP_829879); C. psittaci avian strain (pCpA1, NP_052328); C. felis (pCfe1, YP_515927); and C. pneumoniae strain N16 (pCpnE1, CAA57588).
