DNA bending assay. For complexes with both the native operator (OR + OL) and the distal operator OL, relative mobilities (y = Rb/Rf), were plotted against flexure displacement (x) and fitted to the equation (18): y = ax2 − bx + c, where a = −b = 2c(1 − cosα). For the former a = 0.445, b = −0.444, c = 0.821 and for the latter, a = 0.732, b = −0.660, c = 0.910, giving bend angles of 51° and 43°, respectively.
