Rigidity of structural segments of bacteriorhodopsin. The rigidity of structural segments in bacteriorhodopsin was estimated by calculating the spring constant, κ, from values of xu and ΔGu derived from previous DFS studies.26 Structural segments α-helix G and loop GF constitute the most rigid regions of the protein. A structural segment could unfold via different pathways. The rigidity of structural segments unfolding via one pathway is shown here.
