The sos3 mutant is hypersensitive to Na+ and Li+ but not to K+, Cs+, or general osmotic stress induced by mannitol. Wild-type (•) and sos3 (○) seedlings were grown for 4 days on vertical agar plates containing MS nutrients and then transferred to vertical agar plates containing MS supplemented with NaCl, KCl, LiCl, CsCl, or mannitol. Root growth was measured 6 days after the transfer. Growth on MS nutrients was considered as 100%. Values are the averages of 15 seedlings.
