Forkhead factors working towards a common goal. Both forkhead box F1 (FOXF1) and FOXF2 are required for normal embryonic development and integrity of the intestine. FOXF1 and FOXF2 act by distinct and non-overlapping mechanisms, and together maintain intestinal epithelial integrity by promoting extracellular matrix (ECM) production through inhibition of Wingless 5a (WNT5a).
