The tlr4^−/− mice and congenic wild-type control mice on a C57BL/6 background were injected intravenously with Log₁₀ 3·11 CFU of S. Typhimurium strain C5 and bacterial numbers in the livers of mice (n = 4) were determined at 72 and 96 hr postinfection. Results are expressed as Log₁₀ viable count ± SD (P is derived from a non-parametric Kruskal–Wallis test of the raw data with a Bonferroni step-down correction for multiple testing).
