Barrier recovery is delayed in transgenic mice with epidermal vegf-a^−/− mice. For preparation of epidermis-localized VEGF KO mice, see Rossiter and colleagues.32 Acute barrier disruption was achieved with repeated D-Squame tape stripping until TEWL levels were ≥5 mg/cm²/hour, 24 hours after affected (vegf/f-k5Cre) and WT littermates (n = 6 each) were shaved. Barrier recovery was quantitated as percentage of normal (<0.2 mg/cm²/hour) 3, 6, and 24 hours after barrier disruption (±SEM).
