FITC-dextran uptake in preconfluent MDCK cells. Control and JAS-pretreated cells, grown on coverslips, were incubated with FITC-dextran for 15 min or 30 min at 37°C, and the endocytosed marker was visualized by epifluorescence microscopy. After both 15 min and 30 min uptake in JAS-pretreated cells, there was an increase in the number and size of fluorescently labeled compartments (arrows) (b and d) in comparison to those seen in control cells (a and c).
