This cartoon represents a model in which the genes for U1 and U2 snRNA (RNU1 and RNU2) are organized around a coiled body. Transcription factors and RNA polymerase II (RPII) are distributed from the coiled body to the associated genes to facilitate and regulate the expression of these genes. The factors are thus concentrated in an irregularly shaped domain partially overlapping the genes and the coiled body. The coiled body itself does not contain DNA or newly synthesized RNA.
