Fluorescence micrographs of 12-d corneal epithelial cells (CE), 8-d skin epithelial cells (SE), 12-d corneal fibroblasts (CF), and 8-d skin fibroblasts (SF) exposed to UV irradiation for 2, 3, and 4 min and examined for DNA breaks by ISEL 4 h later. The 4-min exposure induced strong nuclear labeling for DNA breaks in all the cell types tested, except for corneal epithelial cells, in which only occasional fragmented nuclei showed strong labeling (arrows).
