MALDI-MS profile of the native (A), peracetyl (B) and permethyl (C) derivatives of arabinosyl oligomers released from M. tuberculosis CSU20 AG by arabinanase. The HexN carrying peaks are tentatively assigned as Aran+X ion series here, which include Ara12-14+X and Ara17-21+X. Direct permethylation apparently enhanced the sensitivity of detection of the Aran+X series, leading to detection of species larger than Ara21+X (C). The isotopic clusters of X containing Aran were selectively magnified to show clearly the mass increment from the original Aran counterpart.
