(A) Peritoneal macrophages were isolated from neutropenic mice of various strains and treated ex vivo with medium, HBP (1 μg/ml), or HNP1–3 (1 μg/ml) for 24 hours. Thereafter, the phagocytic capacity was assessed using IgG-opsonized S. aureus. For each analysis, 4 independent experiments were performed. *P < 0.05 versus respective control.
