HeLa and N2A cells stably expressing Cx43-GFP are well coupled. HeLa cells microinjected with Lucifer yellow rarely exhibited dye transfer to neighboring cells, as shown in phase (A) and fluorescent (B) views. However, when Lucifer yellow was microinjected into HeLa cells stably expressing Cx43-GFP, dye spread to a number of neighboring cells (C and D).
