To determine if the disease process could be abrogated in vivo, neutralizing CD4 antibody was administered via intraperitoneal injection. Aire-deficient animals on the NOD background were treated with 500 micrograms of anti-CD4 (GK1.5) or isotype control once a week starting at 21 days post-birth. Animals were sacrificed at 49 days of age and disease was evaluated by histological analysis. Average histological score for all the organs (A).
