Factor 2 as a predictor of encephalitis severity. Factor 2 represents a linear combination that summarized major metabolic changes in both neuronal (NAA/Σ, Glu/Σ) and glial (Cr/Σ, MI/Σ) cells during SIV infection. Animals with SIVE had significantly lower scores for Factor 2 than those without encephalitis (left). Factor 2 was able to distinguish animals with moderate to severe encephalitis from animals with mild or no encephalitis as well as uninfected controls (right).
