Table 1. Intra- and inter-modular effects of mutations.
Logic circuit model | RNA model
Median±SE | p-value | Observed range | Median±SE | p-value | Observed Range
FG | MVG | FG | MVG | |||||
Intra Module Effect | 0.12±0.002 | 0.14±0.001 | <10−4 | 0–0.2 | 0.28±0.007 | 0.36±0.005 | <10−9 | 0.18–0.64 |
Inter Module Effect (Pleiotropy) | 0.04±0.005 | 0.01±0.001 | <10−4 | 0–0.1 | 0.057±0.005 | 0.053±0.005 | NS | 0.01–0.19 |
The first row corresponds to the normalized phenotypic effect of a genetic mutation on its own module; the second row corresponds to the normalized phenotypic effect of a genetic mutation within a module on the other modules (pleiotropy). The median±SE are presented for FG and MVG, p-value is as obtained from Wilcoxon rank sum test for equal medians. The range of effects in solution space was obtained by measuring the effects over a large random sample of genomes that solve G1 (see Text S1 section 3).
