A seventy-two-year-old woman with marked osteoarthritic changes of the right knee. The preoperative point rating was thirty-six: the patient had disabling pain and could walk only half a block. When evaluated eighteen months after surgery, she had a rating of eighty-seven. She had no pain and could walk an unlimited distance.
