A fifty-two-year-old woman with rheumatoid arthritis who had undergone prior tibial-plateau replacement with a MacIntosh prosthesis. Pain recurred one year after the initial surgery and was disabling; the patient could walk only a few steps. She had a 20-degree flexion contracture and no angular deformity. When evaluated eighteen months after operation, she could walk ten blocks and had some discomfort related to inclement weather. (A) Preoperative anteroposterior roentgenogram. (B) Postoperative roentgenogram, after insertion of modular total knee replacement.
