154 of 156 of the most highly induced genes were unique to C3H mice at 1 week post-B. burgdorferi infection and the majority were annotated as IFN-inducible. In contrast, 117 of 119 induced genes were unique to C57BL/6 mice with the majority of these genes annotated as being associated with epidermal differentiation or wound repair. The downregulated genes in C3H mice included many of the genes upregulated in C57BL/6 mice. 6 genes were significantly repressed in C57BL/6 mice. Only two genes exhibited a shared upregulation between C3H and C57BL/6 mice, and 1 gene was commonly downregulated in the two strains (Crandall et al., 2006).
