Secretion of cytokines from RAW264.7 cells after addition of oligodeoxynucleotide (ODN). Concentrations of (a) tumour necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and (b) interleukin-6 (IL-6) in culture media were measured at 8 hr (TNF-α) or 24 hr (IL-6) after addition of each ODN to RAW264.7 cells at varying concentrations: (open bars) 2 μg/ml; (hatched bars) 6 μg/ml; (closed bars) 18 μg/ml. Results are expressed as the mean ± SD of three determinations. The experiment shown was a representative of three experiments with similar results. *P < 0·05, **P < 0·01, significantly different from single-stranded ODN (ss-ODN), double-stranded ODN (ds-ODN) and dsODN × 3 at the same concentration.
