Hematopoietic colony formation was determined after fourteen days in semisolid methylcellulose cultures supplemented with erythropoietin, GM-CSF, IL-3 and stem cell factor. Total colonies were defined by multiplying counted colonies with the number of expanded cells divided by the number of input cells. Mean values ± SE from four to nine independent experiments conducted in triplicate.
